She said she is not ready to look like a "grandma" riding down the road yet. She is also concerned that her seating position is going to change and she will be sitting farther away from me etc... She has seen too many women reading books rolling down the highway and heard stories of wives falling asleep sitting back there hence the grandma comments. Ultra owners please give your opinions on this.

I am ready for the comforts of the Ultra. I was originally thinking street glide but have seen many posts about t being a harder ride for the passenger. Does not sound like the street glide would be an upgrade from the king in that respect.

Not decided if I am going to keep the king or not. 03 with 56k dealer offered $9300 in trade yesterday but I do love it and in the position to possibly keep it so that is undecided. Found a 09 Ultra 4000 miles stage 1, bub 7 exhaust and some extras for $21k to include 5 year extended warranty. Very clean very temping..

Thoughts?
Although we are old enough to be grandparents, we are not, my wife loves her rolling sofa and when I read her this post she just smiled and said....obviously she has never ridden on one..just sayin!

jj,
I had a 98 Road King Classic for 5 years and loved that bike. One day I got the Ultra bug and picked up an 05 Ultra about 3 years ago. It's great! you'd love the ride. I did the detach kit for the tourpack and it's like a different ride when it's off. I'm 49 and my wife is 47. We actually rented one in Vegas in 05 and at that time my wife said "you might as well drive a car" Funny, she loves the comfort of this bike and when I looked back at pictures from the Vegas trip...it's the same bike, color and all.

And as was said before, I think that's pretty steep $$. Where were you looking? What part of Md. are you in?

I went from an 04 Road King Classic to an 08 Ultra 3 years ago. My wife and I both love it. Have not second guessed at all. Wife loves the wider seat and back rest as well as the tunes along with the communication system. Great choice, she will love it.

You will love the Ultra, we are on our 2'nd one and there is no going back. Moving up to a 2009 or later model with the new frame will also be a noticeable upgrade.

Go for your ULTRA, you will NOT regret it !! It is as much fun, pratical and comfortable riding solo as is two up. The "old people look", no way ! I've got a deposit down on the 2012 two tone orange limited, hope to see it next week. If I like the colors, my Boss Hoss is "History" ! If I don't like the color combo, I will hold out for the 110 cu.in. "Wet Head" next year ! Just do it. Craig

Ultra all the way! Once she rides it, she'll never look back. If you're thinking Ultra, don't even consider the Street Glide, you'll constantly be trying to make it an Ultra anyway. My wife falls asleep all the time on the back and she's no grandma.

Hey....no one has mentioned this.......Get a Woody's fairing and a detachable tour pac and then you have 2 bikes in 1 ! That's what I did.

Default get the ultra

I bought my first harley in march of 2011 a 2 tone rootbeer Ultra. I had a 2002 Yamaha 1100 V-Star when I bought the Harley. My wife rode with me on the Yamaha but she is much more comfortable on the ultra and for some reason I feel much more secure on it. I gave the Yamaha to my son and had to pull it in the garage because he had went out for the evening and left it out. I really didn't like riding it any more and I was only going about a 100 feet into the garage but it felt so strange and small. My only regret is that I didn't buy an ultra sooner. We are both 56. Test ride one with her and I'll bet she will want the ultra.
