2010 Ultra...stage one , screaming eagle pipes

I want to get rid of Cat to make bike run cooler, that is my main goal. Iam open to new pipes also.

Talked with Fuel Moto and they suggest "PowerVision" tuner. Which they would preset.
replace exhaust headers
plug and play.....

Am I making this too easy or is there a catch?

Am not asking to start debate about any company or one tuner better than other just need a direction. Read most of the threads just getting ready to pull trigger

Do you have the H-D stage 1 download then- in which case you may be able to gut the cat with no concerns, otherwise:

My experience is that he nightrider.com XIEDS worked as advertised and did exactly what I wanted.

allowed me to open up the intake and exhaust without running overly lean.

It's a $125 solution. They plug inline with the O2 sensors and when the ECM is using O2 sensor data ( most cruising/riding conditions) causes the mixture to be slightly richer than otherwise.
Cooler operation, and for me solved a ping problem i had under certain conditions. retained good fuel economy.

Other guys have tuners and downloads, and always have questions--- not one of the riders I know have a tuner system that does not give them problems- either in day to day operation, or complete failure.

I base my opinions on over 20 years with Harleys from Panheads with manually adjusted carbs and ignition timing controlled from the left hand grip, Years with Evos, HiPo and stock ( ish) to my 09 FLHTC.
I have some ASE training and have spent alot of time with the older bikes tuning carbs and timing- I have some feel for when a motor is running lean or rich, and timing is correct for conditions.

that's my thoughts with tuners- I don't think the aftermarket and the "canned" tunes are worthwhile.

Pipes- in your shoes ( and one of my reasons for the 09 was lack of cat), I'd remove the cat from the stock headers.
You may decide to go with aftermarket pipes in the future, but for mild performance requirements, the gutted stock headers will be fine

either way you'll be pulling off a set of pipes and putting on a set of pipes, why not gut yours and pocket the difference.

Ive used Fuel Moto and had great results. On my softail I used a PCIII with their canned MAP and never had a problem, upgraded to cams and they sent a new MAP, 5 minutes to load and on the road.

On my Road Glide I was using a PC V and its running well but I did not want a piggy back tuner and I wanted to be able to use the O2 sensors so Im switching to the Power Vision this week with a custom MAP from Fuel Moto so tht I can flash the ECM and be done with it.

Ive read about the XEIDS and understand how they work but that only effects the closed loop which is the cruise portion and tricks the ECM into a richer condition. To get better overall performance throughout the power range you also need to make additional changes to timing and fuel. Fuel Moto has an excellent article on their site explaining the basics of HD Fuel Injection and tuning.

Regarding too easy or not. With the Power Vision it is a 5 minute procedure to flash your ECM with the new MAP that they send you. If its not quite right Jamie will tweek it and send you another or if down the line you change pipes or add cams they can help you out. If your into it their is also an auto tune feature that will allow you to create your own MAP or it can go to a Dyno and be tuned using the Power Vision

Sorry guys dont want to beat a dead horse cause I am missing part of the story in my head. I am am stupid and confused.

1) Gutting the stock headers of the CAT..... I see rinehart makes headers that stop at 08 for usage....same engine as 09 on up except for Cat and o2 sensors? Is it worth it to buy new headers and new pipes to do this stuff once and do it right?
2) Gutting cat mandates a mapping change no matter what...is that correct? Power Vision can do this with a Fuel Moto program.....
3) Am I too concerned over Cat removal and the overall heat issue of bike.....
4) Is there a better breather to put on an Ultra (weather worthy...I live in Oregon) other than the standard Stage One Harley one.
5) If I gut the cat can I just use nightrider Xieds alone or does that mean remapp?
6) does any of this stuff necessitate a Dyno setting....?

any answers on any of these questions would be appreciated.
