Default Lower fairings and Heavy Breather Air Cleaner

I just ordered lower fairings and speaker enclosers. Is there anything I can do with my SC heavy breather to make it work with these or do I have to fork out another $300-$400 for a new breather?

I have seen them rotated up towards one o clock, they look silly though.

I am curious about this too, does it need a completely new intake or just the filter element? or the filter attachment?

I don't think the problem is how far forward the heavy breather extends is it? I think it is about getting air into the engine. I think the way the lowers divert air that not enough air reaches the heavy breather, thus, the engine.

The money you spend is up to you. You can have a nice looking set up for far less than 3 or 4 bills. I've also been told that none of these hi-flows are really that much better than any of the others as far as air flow. Some can be higher maintenance though so I recommend SE.

They sell a short fillter element for bikes with lowers. Not sure the part number but all you will need is the "short" filter.

There is a compact heavy breather that will fit with the lower fairings (28716-10). I know it fits with the glove boxes, however, I do not know if it would fit with the speaker boxes. I am also wondering if you can just buy the shorter air filter part.

I saw these somewhere before but now I can't seem to find them. Since it appears the speaker boxes and speakers stick out farther then just the glove boxes I'm not sure it would work unless I shorten the snorkle as well.

I have seen this done as well and agree with you, it looks a bit silly but it maybe a quick temporary fix.

Even with the compact breather element, it will be a close fit
with the speaker boxes.
Will be interesting come time to take the breather element off
and clean it........unless you have room to slide it off the
90* snorkel, you will need to remove the speaker boxes in order
to remove the element.

I have the compact element, but the backs of my lowers are open.....

I looked up the p/n Hek73 supplied. Says it will work with lowers BUT NOT with lower speakers. They would of course be talking about Harley's speakers, stock on the CVO Street Glide, so I guess one needs to ask how far out Harley's lower speakers stick out versus how far your speakers will stick out. This definitely seems to make it a matter of space instead of air flow. Air flow being my original guess to be the problem. I still don't see how you are getting air into your engine though with your filter/intake right behind the lower. I know my shin doesn't get much air behind the lower.
