My Road King is Gone.....
Well, finally got a decent hit on my 1997 FLHR. I had it advertised on a dozen or so bike sites I cruise, and got a hit. Guy liked the photos, we haggled on price and came to a decent compromise. I loaded her up and drove to Salisbury, MD, the closest place where his bank was so we could complete the transaction. Rolled up, and guy just fell in love. He rode it around the parking lot (I forgot how nice it sounds with those Cobra 2-1s) and he said I'll take it. Cash in hand, I headed south while he headed off to his DMV to title it and ride the couple hours home instead of loading it into his truck.
Feels like one my my kids left home. This was my first new Harley. I had done a bunch of add on work, then wrecked it when I hit a deer in 2001. Insurance said it could be fixed. The neck was cut off the frame, it was sent back to Harley and a new frame with the same VIN. Did custom paint while the parts were off, and tore the engine down and rebuilt it all hopped up.
Rode it everywhere until I splurged and picked up a cherry Ultra Road Glide. As a compromise, we decided to sell the Road King and my wife's VStar Classic.
So the Road King is gone, but motoring about happily and quite throaty in the Baltimore area. If you see John, wave!
