How does this deal sound if my dealer installs my Bagger Apes?
I have been getting ready to install my Wild 1 12 1/2 inch apes on my 2010 Ultra Classic. I came across the service bulletin for my handlebar bolts to be changed so I had a thought. I first ask how much labor to install my bars along with the +6 upper brake line and +6 clutch line and internal wire the bars. I was told 6 hours labor at $65.00 per hour = $390.00. I then ask if they could give me an adjustment for the service bulletin if I had everything done at the same time. The service writer thought a $52.00 adjustment could probably be done with the managers approval. So the question is $338.00 labor a fair deal. The only thing that was recommended that I hadn't planned on doing was to add the throttle extension which is $89.00. They did not recommend doing any splicing or soddering to extend the stock one. The other thing is I requested their most experienced tech do the work and he has been there like 40 years.I appreciate your comments I'm really on the fence about doing this one myself. Thanks.

Search the forum and you will find most folks end up paying quite a bit more to have their bars swapped out, closer to $1000.+ I recently changed the bars out on my Fatboy out myself and it is quite a job, with the internal wiring and all, but not too hard. It was a little easier since I also relocated my foward blinkers to a light bar at the same time. It sounds as if the dealer you are with is giving you a fair shake. If you use them and the job turns out good, make sure you get back with us and mention their name so others in your area know of their service.

Sounds like a normal price for a dealer, at least he is willing to give you some credit against the TSB repair. It will only take 2 to 3 hours to do for an experienced tech.
I say do it your self and save the $338. Its not that hard, take your time , only requires basic tools and you can do it in an afternoon. To me its not so much the $ as it is the pride of ownership and doing it yourself. No one will take as much time , or responsibility as you to work on your bike.

Apes
Not a bad price at all! I've heard of install quotes in the one thousand dollar price range. If I had the money to pay to get mine done, I probably would have. Then again, I got great satisfaction in telling people I installed them myself. The hardest part was pulling the right side wire bundle.
So I'd say, if you dont have the patience, time, tools or garage to do so..... Pay someone. IMO.

my local stealer quoted me 95/hr and estimated 6-8 hours to go to 16 inch apes on my Roadking with internal wiring.
I told them to find another sucker and did it myself in one frustration filled but worth every penny saved afternoon.
If i had to do it over again I'd probably forgo my kickass Carlini apes and go with a pre-wired kit from Hill Country Customs because honestly its a cakewalk except the internal wiring part.
