That antenna was the first thing to go on my bike. First I replaced it with a shorty from autozone, then ditched it completely. I never listen to the radio, ipod only. Damn antennas are ugly and dangerous as you proved, lol.

Hope your eye will be OK. If you really need the antenna. Get the type that mounts in your fairing, if you have one. It will clean up the back of the bike.

The shorter one was worse for me. Had the tour pack off and the shorty attached just off the left saddlebag. I stooped down WAY too quickly for some reason and the antenna caught the corner of my eyesocket so hard that my head bounced back up.

Bruised, but missed the eye itself. I go slow around that area of the bike from now on.

One of the first things I did was to remove that obtrusive antenna.
Never thought that they belonged on motorcycles.

Take it off & install it inside the fairing with a short piece of coax. It will fit fine & works great inside there. Hope you heal up soon.

Wow,hope there is no permanent injuries.

I came very close to doing the samething.Bent over to pick up something I dropped by the rear of my old RG with a shortened antenna. The antenna probly came within a half inch of poking my eye.

I remember as a kid when an oil company came out with a promotion where they'd give you an orange ball (styro-foam) to put atop of your antenna. Back then, all radio antennas were external, not in the windshield glass. They got popular fast, as you could quickly see where you were parked in a big parking lot... There ought to be a simple and cheap fix to keep this from happening. I poked my eye 2 or 3 times when I had my Ultra, BUT not to the extent you did.

I sure hope your eye heals quickly and that someone comes up with a solution to keep this from happening to others.

Damn man, thats just too close to losing an eye. Hope no permanent damage.
I changed mine after the first poke in the cheek, no need to wait any longer
as it was only going to get worse.

I bought one of these off e-bay....reception is still good with the radio and
kinda takes the 'poke in the eye' out of the equation.
