First, let me thank your wife for her service to her country. Then, let me tell you that is exactly the way that my wife did it. After riding with me for years, she decided that she wanted a bike of her own. We struck a sweet deal on a used Hugger before she ever took the MSF course. I brought the bike home because she was intimidated by the fact that her first bike was a H-D. She took and passed the MSF course and a week later, she worked up enough nerve to get on that Sporty. She has been an enthusiast ever since and a very good rider. Be patient with her while she learns and the rewards will be great. Good Luck, Ride Safe

No doubt. I've owned a couple Sporties in the last 40 years. On my daily commute I really miss 'em. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for 'em.

That is a very nice looking bike. I'm missing my old Sporty at the moment. I lent it out for an indeterminate time.

Fellow Albertan here and considering an '05 Custom Sporty for my better half. Practically brand new (less than 5,000 kms). What kinda coin did she have to shell out so I can compare? The guy selling who is selling his wife's old bike is asking close to 8 G's.

Nice looking Sportster. Sounds like you two will have fun one she has her license. I keep considering a similar bike as my commuter bike.

I started out on a sporty...thought the bike was huge when I first started....then went to a Heritage...night and day difference although by looking at Johansson's signature, they look about the same size!
But when I did own my sporty, I helped a gal pick up a Honda Rebel and let me tell you THAT is a small bike!!

Congrats to the wife on her Sporty - hope you two have a great time riding. I started on a 77 ironhead (XLH) and although it was way too small for my 6'2" frame, I was 19 years old and didn't care because 'it's a Harley!". Good memories of that time though - she was a good first Harley for me. That's her in the sig pic between me and my little sister.

Rode my buddies Nitester once. I would't last 15 miles on that bad boy. Went over a manhole cover and it about launched me to the moon. Can see where they can be fun as hell. But yep, miles away from a bagger. But we all like different things.

Sporters sometimes get bashed, but in my mind, they are exactly what they are designed to be, to a T. And thats kewl. Just not the bike for me.

I had 2 different sportsters ..a 1990 and a 92 ... Haven't ridden one in 15 years till my brother in law brought his 100th anniversary 883 to my shop a few weeks ago to try to sell it ... I took it for a ride the other day and MAN ..that thing is small ......and with only 4 gears you forget how tall 1st gear was ..by the time you have the clutch out if you aren't lugging you are doing about 20 mph : ) ... But I agree with the others They are cool little bikes with a vibe all their own .

My first bike was an '84 Roadster 1000, I bought it in Germany while serving there in the Canadian Army, had a lot of fun with that bike as Germany was an awesome place to ride. A bunch of us in the Regiment all had Harleys so we would go blasting around the Black Forest region believing that loud pipes saved lives, lots of good memories.
As for my wife's bike, she has taken possession of my HD accessory catalog and I think that she is making a list.
