Default Stage 1 upgrade

Thinking about stage 1 air cleaner and whatever download recommended HD suggests. Any thoughts on this being good, bad or indifferent. Have Rush slip ons and bike is an 11 FLHTK

Thanks
Mark

My thought is you should do it.
I've been thinking about doing the same thing.

EVERYONE is going to likely comment on this one. I've been at both ends of the spectrum through the years and now that I'm past 60, I've "toned it down" a bit. On my 2011 RKC here's what I've done in that direction:
Stage I Air Cleaner
Stage I Download
Screamin' Eagle Touring slip-ons
Cat Free head pipe from American Custom (now no heat on my right leg)
It's all worked out great and I'm quite pleased with the performance and sound.

Hope you make the decision that pleases YOU!

A buddy of mine has the Stage 1 with HD download on his 2011 SG and is happy with it. He's not planning on doing any other upgrades. I currently am using a Fuelpak, but will change to a Power Commander when I do a cam upgrade, or maybe a FM107. Do what you feel comfortable with, just try to think ahead so you don't waste your money changing the changes.

If you are thinking about doing the one time download at the dealership, I would suggest you rethink. It seems like a lot of money for a one time change. If you make other changes later, you are going to have to pay to have them change it again. I just did the Fullsac header with a stage 1 upgrade. The TTS MasterTune was a breeze to use. I know it costs more up front but in the long run it's going to be with it. You can change things as often as you like or need. TTS will give you all kinds of downloads depending on what you add or change.

if all your going to do is stg 1 i would skip the 200$ download and go for a 100$ set of ied"s they will do more for afr than the download.

I had the setup you are thinking about on my '11 Ultra Classic. The combination was excellent. I left the header stock (i.e. left the cat in), and was pleased with the Rush slip-ons, although they were just a bit louder than what I was looking for. But the combo of SE Intake, HD Download, and Rush slip-ons worked quite well.

If you plan to only do slip-ons and a filter with no other mods it's worth the $150 for the HD download. Plus the HD Download is a part so you can get a discount on it if your dealership gives you a discount on parts. My past three bikes I've done this on and been very happy with the results.

I think the Ness big sucker is a cleaner install than the screaming eagle. uses a washable oiled filter similar to K&N. the chrome backing plate model makes for easy wipe off on wash day.
$115 on ebay from easternpc.

I use the nightrider.com XIEDS $125 and done

for performance boost suggest removing cat or replacing header pipes, and vitrtually any aftermarket slip on

expect 7 to 10 HP gain, reliable, good MPG ( I see 44 MPG when touring), and easily reversed should you have a warranty concern.

It is possible that H-D not support a warranty claim once "off road" equipment is put on the bike- and the dealer computer system tells them what has been done to it.

I recieved stage 1 as part of the deal when I bought my bike, I'm very hapy with it. There is a very clear difference between stock and stage 1, I still plan on doing more upgrades, (FM 107) but the stage 1 was great to hold me over during the warranty period.
