Default Can fender holes be filled or do I need a new fender?

I have a 09 FLHT and want to do the CVO street glide rear fender fascia. I added the Ultra Classic fender light when I first got the bike, so the fender has two small holes for the light, plus the holes for the stock turn signals, tail-light, etc. If I take the fender to a body shop can they weld/fill in the holes, or do I need a new fender? Or would it be easier/cheaper just to get an extended rear fender that has the filler strips between the fender and the bags?

Thanks for the help!

I'm no body man, but, I know that I can fill in those holes with my MIG welder in a couple of minutes. If you are planning to repaint the fender, it should be no big deal

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that its possible, but since I am neither a body repair man, nor a welder, I thought I'd ask. I'm gonna call my local painter tomorrow and see what he says.

Yes any body guy would weld up , bondo and color match---but compare that to the cost of a factory color matched fender- you may find it works out better.

our fenders are still pretty thick steel so not much danger of the heat deforming the metal--- when done by a pro.

Actually the HD fenders are thin....while you can weld up holes, cut the fender down etc....you have to be careful with heat as they burn easily. I welded up the rear, and the front.

What color is your scooter? My previous bike was black and I relocated the license bracket and plugged the holes with black plastic plugs. Don't laugh, it didn't look bad at all and leaves the option to easily move the tag back to stock location if you or a future owner ever get the desire to do so.

You may find that you'd be better off selling your current rear fender/turn signal bar/tail light/fender tip light as a complete take-off to offset the cost of the CVO parts, including the CVO rear fender. That's what I did when I swapped out the OEM EG rear fender, etc. and replaced them with the SG fender/fascia, etc. in early '06. You can run the numbers between doing bodywork to your OEM fender versus selling the take-off parts and replacing them with a new CVO rear fender, etc.

Good luck with your project.
