Cost of a paint job?

The plastic paint booth would work and outside will work on the base coat because it dries so fast. You can't put clear on outside though. You'll pick up too much dirt and critters waiting for it to dry.

Paint on a SG is a major investment. Im looking to do my FLHT this winter. Im planning on adding lowers + speaker boxes and a painted inner fairing.
If its going to run you more than 5k I would look at HD's paint sets. They are in that price range plus you can sell your old tins to recoupe some of the cost.

Find a good painter who is willing to do a side job, if you are not in a rush there can be some real savings there. I do auto repair on the side and a friend, who I rent half my building to, does painting on the side and have seen some amazing things come out of that booth.
He usually charges 1k - 1500 for paint and flames or any secondary graphics. If it were at his work, it would easily hit the 2-3k mark.

My buddy does paint and bodywork for one of the best body shops around. On the side,he does motorcycle parts. He is very good, and more than reasonable.
He charged me $75 to paint my inner fairing;this didnt include paint.I got the paint from a local custom painter for $50.Was the job inexpensive, yes. Was it his best work, yes.
Another custom painter wanted $600 to paint my inner fairing;labor and materials. No thanks.
I just recently got a set of 4" extended bags.My buddy wants $150 for his time,no problem.I just have to get the paint, which I`ll be looking into this week.Custom painter wants $600,labor and materials.Again,no thanks.
Do you homework, and shop around.Inexpensive doesnt always mean garbage.
My paint guy is young; he doesnt have a mortgage or kids he cant afford,he just needs money for drinks and girls. He`s not your average 22 year old piece of ****.He cares about what he does, and word of mouth keeps his pockets full of cabbage.
The only downfall is that he does not do airbrushing, flames, etc.
