TC88 Stage 1 vs Evo mild build?
Got a 2000 Road King right now with air cleaner, cam, slip-ons. Everything else stock. I'm actually impressed with the pick-up even though I know it's probably still a slug compared to other bikes.
Am eyeballing a 98 Road King that's had a decent bit of massaging done
barrels bored .010 over decked .050
new flat top pistons, rings,
Manly valves and springs.
heads have been flowed and CC'd.
Crane Hi-four ignition and single fire coils.
Comp Cams EVL 30-20 Cam.
Barnett clutch set up.
42mm Mikuni carb.
Bub headers,
Samson mufflers.
Hi flow air cleaner.
all done about 3k ago according to seller, so a fresh top-end
With all that considered, would the evo now be the more ballsy powerplant?
I really dig this bike and I'm interested in going back to a carb'd evo even though the RK is nowhere near as troublesome as tends to be represented as far as the EFI goes.
what say ye?

Sounds like you're good either way...both sound like nice bikes. Obviously more has been done to the evo, not necessarily a bad thing. Thank said, you'll probably have to do more tinkering with the evo over time than your '00. The MM EFI on your '00 isn't the best but it gets the job done. The carbed '98 might actually be a better option. Any thought to finding a '02 - '05 EFI bike? Delphi injection is much better then the MM set-up. Lots of them out there with mods for about $10k.
Hard to answer your question. Take it for a ride. If he seriously wants to sell it, he should let you.
Me, I'm very thankful for what I have...can't see getting rid of it. May add another to the stable but my '02 has given me nine plus great years....no reason to let it go.

Both have same mileage, but since the evo's had the top end freshened up I see it as a newer power plant.
00 on the left, 98 on the right

That'd be one way to do it, but...flat out won't work for me. Not my style. I'd flip the coin, then do it again, then rationalize, then then then...
better if I just make an actual decision and go with it. Heh.
I think the main point I was getting at was would the pumped up evo be a noticeable dog compared to the TC88?

Hands down to me w/Evo choice, however your mileage will be 32-36 forever until you install a killer CV, which will give it 38-40.
The 98 has batwing, helps my decision, I love the batwings and simplicity.
Both look real good, but ride the Evo and take a compression tester for both.
BTW, the 98 is a good yr for evo model.

haha you guys are funny.
I already own the '00 FLHRI. Not sure why that is confusing.
agree the mik42 would be more than necessary. I'd probably have put a finessed CV on there, but...
the '98 is no longer available. Guy...well he didn't "douche out" just decided he didn't like the price we had talked about.
so...feel free to let this thread die
'00 is sitting in my garage as I type, a tear in its eye, wondering why I considered straying.
[I]because you have a piece of crap fuel injection system! That's why! And no Bat Wing! All the cool bikes have Bat Wings![I]
heh. sorry. tired.
thanks for the replies
