Needing just a little more leg room
Hello All,
Just made my 15year dream a reality. I just ordered my first Harley. I'm purchasing a RK standard and need more leg room. I'M 6'5" with long arms. The salesman told me to get a HD Tallboy seat and that would move me back an inch or so. My question is, would this surfice? Is there another brand out there I should be looking at? When I sit on the bike I do feel the need to be back more. Oh I forgot to mention I'm 275lbs as well so all you big dogs feel free to let me know what I need to comfortable. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thank,
Tony

RE: Needing just a little more leg room
Funny you should ask this question. Here's my e-mail to Mustang and their reply to me. YMMV.

Questions: Looking to get a touring seat for my 99 FLTR-I. I'm very
tall and have read on the HD forum that the one piec seat moves you forward
and up about 1 inch. The raising up part i like but i need to go back
farther not front. My question to you is, would i be better off with the
solo seat (would it move me back abit) verses the onepice (which many say
moves you forward about a inch)? Thanks for your time, Bryan.

Bryan,
Our solo seat will also move the driver forward about one inch compared to
stock. Mustang's seats have more foam and are much thicker than stock, and
our curved driver's bucket with all that foam in it does not allow any
movement toward the back of the bike. All we can suggest is that you give
one of our seats a try to see if it can work for you.
Thanks for choosing Mustang and let us know if we can help you further.

RE: Needing just a little more leg room
I sure wish a seat mfr would break the code for all of us tall, long leg guys who want to quit straddling the gas tank. I have a SG and a sundowner. It is a very nice seat but since it lowers you, it feels like it puts you on the tank but it really doesn't. Problem with the Tallboy seat is that it raises you more that puts you back. The last thing us tall guys want is to be higher up into the windstream. I'm going to get a custom shop to use the pan off my stock seat and attempt to build one more to my liking. If anybody does find a seat that puts us further back PLEASE post it.
