That's funny. But you are absolutely correct.

Before you cut any wires doing the install, consider moving your Volt guage to the old Air Temp guage opening. IIRC you remove the blue wire from the Air Temp guage wire harnes and hook it to the Volt guage and it works in that ne location. Then you can install the Oil Temp guage above the Oil Pressure guage and have your vitals on one side :-)

Anybody with a Limited I think I saw where HD now offers an Oil Temp to match other Limited gauges. After comments above think I'll just stick to my dipstick gauge which has been running very hot even with oil cooler in these 95+ temps we've been having.

Very true, makes you wonder how long the bike has been running that hot, but both installs are rather simple, if possible schedule with your next oil change, you have to drain the oil anyway. BTW I had the dip stick oil guage, and wouldn't you know as soon as the warranty ran out the lense started fogging, then somehow oil got in the electronics, if I put another one there, it will be a manual guage.

I have the limited. Stock comes with the oil cooler. I was at the dealer the other day and Roger the parts guy showed me a catalog that the new Limited faced gauge will be available in Sep.2011. As I have a 25% off coupon I thought about picking one up, but wanted to get everything at once as the coupon is a one shot deal.

The swap is fairly simple and should take about 1 1/2 hours. Before you take your outer fairing off, unwrap the gauge and tape a plastic bag over the gauge housing leaving the gauge face and trim ring exposed. Spray the gauge face with water , like being caught in the rain, and see if it fogs up or lets moisture inside. I have installed four of the factory units and two of them had to be replaced due to water inside. It's a lot easier to install the thing once after testing.

I want the gauge to see the OIL temp not the AIR temp. I have a built in air temp gauge in my body.

I had this done a the dealer before I picked up the bike. I'm pretty sure at the time the sensor was seperate. The outside air temp gauge to me is useless and I wanted the much more important oil temp gauge in the fairing. Ride safe....
