I read your post. It doesn't sound as if you have the seat with the " built-in " backrest. Or maybe I'm missing something.

I'm reading that he has a stock or similar seat with the slot that accepts the back rest post.
He's got a good solution in my opinion but a pia if you like to remove it very often.
