compensator ver 2008-09-01 vs 2011-06-01 - Harley added spiral oil grooves
Ok, I just bought was was claimed to be an SE compensator. With one exception, the kit contents matched the PDF for Harley Big Twin compensator. Here is the link for it, dated 2008-09-01
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J04825.pdf
So I google Harley Screaming eagle compensator and I get a new PDF dated 2011-06-01. Which matches my kit exactly with no exceptions.

Now, take note of item 5, the thrust washer, notice the spiral grooves, which appears to be harleys answer to the lube problem that folks have been doing sprocket grinds about.
so, are both of these an SE compensator, is there a pdf for a normal compensator.
also, I'm thinking of drilling a few holes thru the retaining nut to line up with the area that needs lube on the sprocket as well as drilling a few holes on the springs which will seep oil down the spline shaft and into the sprocket at shut down.

Yea you see that spring cage on item 6. Mine came off and was perched over the primary chain. I suppose the spring washers actually cut/wore a groove until the cage came off. Only found it when trieng to diagnose a strange intermiten noise. Thank god it didnt fall on to the primary chain while I was going down the road. SE comp was the Best 207.00 I ever spent on my bike.

Those spiral grooves in the thrust washer (5) are nothing new. I can tell you my SE Comp is over one year old and has them. The grooves that people are cutting in the sprocket are not on that side, they go on the back side between the sprocket (4) and the shaft extension (2).
I wouldn't recommend experimenting with drilling holes in the springs or the nut. The results would be unpredictable since it hasn't been done before. But if you want to be a pioneer, knock yourself out. I say cut the grooves in the back side of the sprocket, assemble it per the instructions, fill it up with Formula+ and call it good.
