Everyone's definition of ugly is different. I happen to think the tourpak looks ok, and even if it didn't, the useful factor far outweighs the ugly factor. Just my opinion.
The other option, of course, is a detachable tour pak rack...best of both worlds.

Don't rule out a Road King! A Great handling bike. My Classic had the removal tour pac. That will carry everthing you need. The wife bought the tour pac for me so she would have something to lean on. I thought I would take it off a lot of the time but it is soo handy I only took it off to wash the bike. Rent one sounds like you are in good with your Harley shop I am sure they will apply the cost to your purchess.

Detachable tour pak, for the win.
For the OP. The Streetglide is a very nimble bike and is a blast to ride around town, in the twisties, and on long runs. I find that it outhandles the two fatboys and two sportsters I have owned, hands down.

First bike was a Fat Bob. Paid it off early, and two days later I had a Street Glide in the garage lol. 4 weeks later with 4000 km on the SG and 80 on the FatBob, the Dyna got sold. Wife didn't want to ride, kids aren't quite old enough, so made tough choice to sell it...
Sucked ***** to watch it go, but absolutely love the SG...

Everyone I know who has gone to a bagger never goes back! Go with an Ultra Classic or Ultra Limited. You can always take stuff off easily, but if you go to add stuff that your bike didn't come with (like tour pack, intercom, CB, cruise,ect...) it cost a whole lot more later. Been there, done that.

I leave mine at home most of the time, but when the OL comes along for a trip, it's nice to have a bit more storage room for all of her stuff. Besides, it just sits in the garage on a shelf, wrapped in a blanket to keep it clean. If you don't have room to store it out of the way, it is a REAL pain in the *** to walk around (like when I lived in a 1-bedroom apartment).
