Cleaning Spokes on RKC
#21
I have read this elsewhere, and it seems true on my 1999:
"If your bike is older than a 2005 model and has OEM wheels, you have cadmium plated spokes. Ain't nothing gonna make 'em shine. They turn battleship gray with age. Trying to polish them will only wear off the cad plating and lead to rust".

The S100 worked well....spray it on..let it sit....rinse it off...but still plenty of cleaning to do...especially since I rode in the rain tonight. I'm going to give them another shot of the S100 tomorrow and do some scrubbing along with it.
I agree that the spokes look best on the RKC...at least as far as what I've seen so far. It just goes with the bike.

I did this 2 days ago while the wife and kids were gone shopping. As we all know the break dust build up will eat away the protective coating on the spokes, but shine em up the best you can. I use Simple Green and a tooth brush for the cleaning process. To polish them up I use Mothers Chrome Polish. Lots of time and elbow grease and plenty of Jack and Coke or Guinness Extra Stout.
+111 on the Jack and coke!

Jack it up, pull the bags, crack a beer, toss some ribs on the BBQ, the start spinning those rims and counting...1, (wipe, polish), 2 (wipe, polish), 3 (wipe, polish, beer)....10 (wipe, polish, beer, check ribs)... rinse/repeat... 52! On to the front tire!
Halfway through the front, you should have a good buzz and the ribs should be done - take a break, (by then your buddies will smell the BBQ and already be bringing more beer over) then finish up. Makes for a great saturday
