Sounds like booze is one of those necessary ingredients....kinda like how my grill doesn't light if I'm not having a beer....weird science!!

Mequire's chrome wheel cleaner.

The stuff works awesome on spokes and chrome wheels.

I did this 2 days ago while the wife and kids were gone shopping. As we all know the break dust build up will eat away the protective coating on the spokes, but shine em up the best you can. I use Simple Green and a tooth brush for the cleaning process. To polish them up I use Mothers Chrome Polish. Lots of time and elbow grease and plenty of Jack and Coke or Guinness Extra Stout.

I have read this elsewhere, and it seems true on my 1999:

"If your bike is older than a 2005 model and has OEM wheels, you have cadmium plated spokes. Ain't nothing gonna make 'em shine. They turn battleship gray with age. Trying to polish them will only wear off the cad plating and lead to rust".

I'd try the S100 and a brush first! I've never tried it on any of my laced wheels, but it made my nasty old mag wheels look like new again. If that doesn't work.....enough alcohol and elbow grease will surely get them shining again!

I like chrome spoke wheels. Nothing else would look right on my RKC. I decided to give up two half hours of evening TV a week and spend it on my wheels. They never get so dirty a half hour can't handle it. The white walls take another half hour.

Half hour, what’s that? 10 minutes of commercials and 20 minutes of NCIS reruns?

Never bothered to clean mine, other than during the usual bike wash. They're spokes, not spokesmodels.

Chrome polish and a 12 pack. Is there such a thing as "too drunk to polish spokes"?
