Default Fix-A-Flat got me home, now what?

Went on a ride with some buddies today and ended up with a flat rear tire. My first mistake was not checking the pressure before we left (I know, I know). Road fast & hard as hell for about an hour and a half, then stopped at a friends for refreshments, maybe half an hour. Got back on to ride and started feeling something wasn't right after about ten minutes. By the time I got to the front of the pack to get everyones attention and stopped, the rear tire was almost completly flat No apparent tire or rim damage.) We tried just more air, but it was coming out fast around a section of the bead and the valve stem. Resorted to a can of Fix-A-Flat and was able to get to another friends house to get some tools. Came up with a rubber washer and flat washer under the valve stem nut and it seems to be holding air. Rode an hour and a half home with no problems or air loss.

My question is, what should I do now? I am going on a couple hundred mile trip in two weeks and don't have a lot of shop time. I'm not the gambling type, but tearing the rear wheel off and cleaning up the mess sounds much better as a winter project.

My first ime using the stuff, Comments, suggestions, experiences?

Thanks,

Replace the tire, clean up the rim.your life is worth more than the price of a tire.

You're fortunate as it is, I wouldnt press my luck. I'd fix the tire properly.

I work for a tire retailer also, your tire with fix a flat is now junk. Replace it.
