tech on 20,000 mile service caught dirty
#21
Had 1K and 5K service done at dealership where bike was purchased. 1K service had no extras added on. I think the tech did a good job. 5K service done by a different tech. Sold me an air cleaner that I don't think I really needed and tried to sell me a new front tire that I didn't buy. I am up for 10K service now and warranty runs out next month. I am going to service it myself. I do need a new rear tire and have bought one from e-bay. Now I need to find an independent mechanic in west Georgia that can put it on for me. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had my 1k service down and the only few things I can say that I KNOW were done was Shockproof in the tranny and the clutch was adjusted and he did a crap job at that. The primary cover does not look like it was taken off as the torx on there have no marks at all on them......given how my bike sounds like crap and is making a hell of a lot more noise than when I brought it in I would not be surprised if he drained the primary and never refilled. Shifts are loud and clunk like hell in all gears now.
Not sure if I should bring it back to dealer and raise a little hell or bring it somewhere else...I've got 5 years of insurance if the tech did jack **** all up but crap feeling knowing that they don't do half the stuff they are supposed to.

It's in a small building ajoining a gas staion. I drive past daily. A few years ago I noticed a guy would be there at the garage working on bikes ocassionally. As time went on he was there more and more often. Then a sign went up. He has odd hours because he has another job. I'll tell you this: did a 2011 Road King 1K for me for about $200. Great guy - even had someone meet me at the garage to drop of my bike during day hours since I work at 6pm and could never get to his shop when open. Same deal on pick up!
He has a small blog set up:

Here is Google info:

I have a service manual and will be doing my own 5k next week, but when it comes to change tires, I'll buy on my own and have him install.
Hope this helps!

Update on dealer... Arrived yesterday, was treated with grace and admitted their tech screwed up.. I have a nice relationship with this dealer and after this mishap see no reason to stop. one question I have,,, S/M said the Primary bolts are put on with a electric Tork gun , said the fasteners needed the gun to secure them, this is why when we try to remove them the strip out... unknown if this is true but I did watch the tech and he did check out the bike

Maybe at the factory thats done to save time but not at a dealer.....Mine came off fine the first time with the correct size star bit. I coated the threads on each bolt with some never-seize and they zip on and off just fine now. Use the correct install sequence and torque and you should never have an issue.
