Grinding primary for SE compensator install
Going to install the SE compensator upgrade myself. I've read that on Dynas you have to grind the lip of the outer primary case a bit to allow room for removing the old rotor. Same true for a 2007 Road King Classic (stock 96ci)? Anyone here done it? Haven't pulled the cover to check. Rather know upfront. Thanks, guys.

When I did my 07 Road King cop bike I did not have to grind anything..

I did mine about a month ago with a dremel tool with a course drum sander bit. Easy to control and easy to clean up after. Never opened a HD primary in my life but I built supercharged hot rods several times in my life so I knew I could handle it. LOL! Really not a big deal taking the material off, there's plenty of it there.

Cover all the exposed shafts, stator, etc with some oil saturated rags to catch the filings before you grind. Once you remove the rags, use one or two cans of carb cleaner (PVC/Rubber/Plastic safe stuff) or the like and spray the hell out of the primary cavity. Then use an air hose and blow the hell out of it. Then you can be sure there's nothing left in there to contaminate anything. Anyway, that's what I did......

From the OP: Outstanding information. Thanks for the feedback! Going to hit it the next rainy weekend day we get. I'm up for it--and already have the rotary tool. Just need the right bit and I'm off and running. Thanks again. And you're right, this forum is a gold mine of tips and techniques.

I'm thinking of replacing the compensator on my 2010 Limited. I have the shop manual, but it doesn't address replacing the compensator rotor - only the comp sprocket. What is the inner primary? This also is not covered in the manual.
I have read the detailed "how to" posted on this site which involves grinding the case but would also consider removing the inner primary as a possible option.
Can anybody describe what the inner primary is and how to remove it?
