I have been using the Hella E-code headlight housing with a 80/100 watt bulb. I usually leave high beam on during the day. It is bright enough that you notice it on street signs even in full sunlight at a good distance away. A world of difference at night and this costs about $70.

A Hella E-code headlight, Hella 80/100W bulb, and a Kissan modulator will go a long way toward being seen in daylight, as well as provide a much better pattern and "seeing distance" at night. The headlight and bulb cost about $50 and the modulator around $100.
