Unless you are married to that HK radio, just ditch it. You can sell it for way more than an upgraded replacement. I bought the Alpine CDA-105 and it has a locking rear USB port and the controls mimic the Apple software on the front panel. I ran the USB cable under the tank along with the power and preamp cables for my amp and mount the ipod in the right saddle bag.

350.00 (sold HK)
-200.00 (Alpine)

150.00 (net)

Not too bad, huh?

Don't think I would call this an interface but here's what I use. Of course it means using the 3.5 jack but it does do away with any cables hanging around. Volume control works on handlebars but no song info shows on radio. Just a small piece of velcro on the dash and the back of the radio and everything is stable.
That's pretty cool. However, you are still using the crappy DAC in the ipod. If you go aftermarket you will pull the digital signal out of the ipod and run it into a much better DAC, which of course equates to better sound.

Shakeydeal,
Any concern that engine heat may affect the USB cable running under the tank?

Is that radio water resistant?

For those who went from the 3.5 and spent the bucks on the Boom! iPod interface - did you notices a drop in "volume" or "loudness" when using the cable/interface?

I would listen to my iPod using the 3.5/AUX jack and my volume would be between 1/2 and 3/4 - plenty of sound and clarity. So this past weekend I broke down and spent the bux on the cable interface and now I have to have it cranked at 3/4 to full and the "loudness" and clarity isn't there - if anything I was expecting an improvement, not a degradation in sound volume and quality....

Anyone else notice a diff?

I do like having all the controls thru the bike and one less thing on my bars, but this lack of sound bothers me. Spending that kinda dough only to get subpar results is not my frugal way. ;-)

I ordered the one from Mark at onthemovetechnology.com. It'll be in the first week of September and I can't wait!

That seems like a lot of money to spend just to hide a wire going to the aux input!!!!!

Finally got my iPod to work with the AUX okay, but I really want to be able to have more control of the play lists. I'm tempted with the "onthemove" system, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Real tempted though.
