Change your pipes. You will not hear the difference.

I made the switch from an 2006 (88)...Wouldn't say it's any more noisey, but it sure shakes(at idle) a hell of a lot more!

The difference is going from a 3.75" diameter piston to a 3.87" piston.

There is not much reason that it should be louder.

When new they both have to comply with the same noise and emissions regulations. When modified they may well sound different, but it depends on what those mods are!

This makes perfect sense to me and there should be no reason for more noise, but with that said my 103 IS slightly noisier than my 96, the 103 also had a lifter bleeding down that quit with the first oil change.

The noise difference would mainly be in the exhuast an intake changes you most likely had done, If you spent for the bigger motor, im sure there was some other changes too.

Ringer, are you talking top end noise, or exhaust type of noise?

Displacement alone will not change the sound either in tone or in volume. However two things that are related can make a difference: 1.) If the replacement pistons use a zero offset on the wrist pin, you will definitely hear more engine clatter, and if you put an offset wrist pin piston in backwards it'll really rattle. 2.) Changing cams will change the exhaust and also if you are really sensitive to it the intake noise as well.

When I went from the stock 96" to 103" I noticed that the replacement pistons (KB Hyper-eutectic) weighed slightly less than the stock pistons. Not too surprisingly, because it's a "B" motor, I do notice a slight change in the engine vibration. Not so much in how much it vibrates (which isn't much) but at what RPM's the really smooth spots are.
