Yep, been there with dealers which is why I avoid them like the plague. Why is it car dealers never have to have your car for more than a day but simple maint at a Harley dealer requires having your bike for a week and this is after making an appt a month in advance. Haven't been to one in years for maint, thankfully.

Sounds familiar. After writing a 3 page letter and forwarding it to the owner, service manager, and general manager, met with the service manager and had a civil discussion on their lousy communication and customer service incompetence. Haven't had a problem since, but if I can possibly tackle the job, I avoid the dealership like the plague!
It is still hard to beat an old fashion letter sent to multiable sources.
Service Mgr./Parts Mgr. Dealer Mgr. Owner if you can an address and Harley Davidson Customer Service and the BBB
Make sure to list everyone that you sent the letter to on the bottom of the ltr. (Fear Factor) Unlike e-mail there is no delete button. also if the letter doesn't go up the chain of command it will come down from Harley.
I have done this several times in my life and it has always gotten positive result.

The 2 "nearest" dealers for me are bout over 90 miles and I have never taken my bike to either for work. Both are well known for just sh&t workmanship.
I may not like the $$$ I had to spend to get my bike right after I bought it, but my Indy constantly calls me with updates when he is working on the bike & is very clear of where my bike is in the order of repairs. he's a 1st come 1st serve kinda guy & I rather respect that.

unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a decent dealer in the Detroit area anymore. I'd suggest you try an indy shop like Bishop's or GM cycle in Wayne, it's a pity that no dealer in the area has a competent service manager that's able to schedule any type of service in a timely way. I alway's go to an indy now for everything except for warranty work, in fact my bike still has the tank recall out on it but I'm gonna wait till the end of the season to get it done. Perhaps they'll be able to perform a 1 hr job by spring if I'm lucky.
