Having read the archives about those using yellow/amber bulbs in their spots I am still uncertain which to try.

I am running a 09 Ultra Classic and have seen some using the Wagner sealed beam with some minor wiring changes and others using the 881 plug and play bulbs.
Looking for the true dark yellow/amber bulbs, not sure what 881 is just that.

I guess the non-fluted wagner would be my choice in a sealed beam as I want the most usable light down the road.

Any 881 manufactures which sell the DarkYellow/Amber instead of an off white light yellow bulb? As always PICS welcomed

I tried an "Amber" H-3 bulb. It was only off-white at best, not amber. The Wagner sealed beam is probably your best bet. You could try the lens cover from Cee Bailey.

I was thinking about the 881 Nokya myself. I just haven't found a local source yet.

I'm asking because I'm ignorant on the subject: Other than aesthetics; is there a reason to run the amber?

 

I run the Wagner ambers .... they are not as bright at night as the standards ... makes you want to use you high beam more. I hit heavy fog the other morning (4am) on I95 in Conn. High beams no good in fog .. the amber were not as good as standard in fog either. Probably go back to standards eventually.

 

I'm thinking more wattage than stock and maybe cages would notice me more?

I run the Wagner 4415A sealed beams on my 09 ultra.

My reasoning was that the beam spread is about 30 degrees wider than the stock spots.
This allows motorists to see me at an earlier angle of approach than the stockers.
The amber looks "different" to oncoming traffic and I find "less" people turning left in front of me at the last minute.
The Wagners are 35 watt as opposed to the stock 28 or so , so they are not much less powerful "visually" overall then stock.
I get better coverage to the sides at night and see deer and other animals earlier than stock.
I converted the wires to ring terminals for the wagners , but left enough wire to go back to stock if need be.

He likes them pretty well and the install is easier.
The wagner lifespan is pretty short , but they are cheap and work well for me.
I might play with a 4415 (clear) on the right sometime to see if the night visibility is even better.

Your best bet for a sealed beam is an H7616. They're 37.5 watts,narrow spot,come in clear or amber.There are 50 watt bulbs,but you'll only get about 90 hours out of them. As for any halogen bulb,if you want more visible light,you need to use a relay and 12 gauge wire.
