Has anybody switched to a tall windshield on their Road King? I'm 6'2" and would like
the windshield to be a little taller but wonder if the extra 2 inches would be too tall.

 

I'm thinking the same thing for my RK ... curious if anyone has done that ....

 

I'm not sure how tall you are but I think the extra 2 inches will be close for
me as far as me being able to see over it. I'm also curious what it would
do to wind turbulence around my head. With the stock windshield I pretty
much get the wind in the face and wonder how much would be deflected
over my head with the taller windshield.

I'm 6'4" and I have the tall windsheild on my RK custom.

The top edge is just below my line of site on flat roads. Going downhill, I seem to have to look through the sheild. It took a bit of getting used to, but I dont even notice anymore.

My riding buddy has a RK Custom with the standard sheild. I rode it once, and there was A TON more buffeting and air on my face. I didnt like it at all.

Thanks CR. It would be ideal if I could find a setup like mine(RKC, Sundowner seat, reduced reach handle bars)
to see what it's like. I'd hate to spend the money and have it be too tall. Glad to hear about less buffeting with
the tall.

 

Ya, I've got a bit of buffeting that begins just above my forehead. I'm thinking about a windshield from these guys clearview they claim that the airsteam is moved up a few inches without going to a taller windshield.

 

I have a police 17.5 windsheild on my 06 RC for the winter months. Love it and the sound from my 2 Wheel turn speakers is even better.

 

RK, how tall are you? I'm 6' 2" with a Sundowner seat. I'm pretty sure my line of sight
will be close to the top of the shield, I just don't want to be looking through it. I think
it would also help with head buffeting.

 

my police rk has the 'tall' shield on it... but it also has the police seat (air bladder) that is a bit higher.

one of these days ill put the police shield on my RK Classic and check it out.

 

Petemac, this move would reduce your fuel consumption further than what you have in the other post. Comfort is one thing, air resistance/turbulence/control is another. 200MPH sportbikes always have their windscreens as minimal as possible. Aside from theoretics, I am in the powersports biz. Aside from conventional motorcycles, motorscooters are a big part of our operation.. Some models have ridiculously tall "barndoors" available for marginally powered vehicles. 30MPH around town is no big deal, once you hit 50 and the crosswinds start steering your handlebars, you feel what the theory translates to. If you want to reduce your overall speed on road trips, make the change. Keep your old one, you might find it handy.
