The cat restricts airlflow volume and exhaust note with a filter like insert. If you ditch the stock headers lets say with Vance and Hines power duals, you loose the cat and restriction. Aftermarket air filter and headers will allow more air flow and produce a different exhaust note. Since the air/fuel ratio changes, a fuel management system is needed to correct the stock settings.

Thanks MrHog......but what are the differences in the head pipes? What are the advantages of a head pipe from say, FuelMoto as opposed to a stock pipe that has been gutted.
I guess I'm asking why would I spend $400+ for aftermarket head pipe when I can get a neutered stock pipe for around $100.?

plenty people here have gutted the stock pipe and enjoy the results as well
...i guess i'm uneducated because i'm a fool oh well, only 1% of this country actually fight for it
