My '11 SG had a shift problem, but it was right from new and did it regardless cold or hot. Was either the shift drum or the shaft it slid on wasn't finished being machined, so hung up and made you force gear changes..

Clutch adjusted? What oil are you using in the trans and primary.

All I know is when I went to AmsOil in all three holes in my 95FLSN it was night and day but I had my primary adjustment checked as part of the service but it never did really clunk and shifted great before the service but just after changing over to Amsoil everything just felt perfect.

It probably either has too much primary oil or it needs the clutch adjusted or both.

I have been dealing with this since new! Haven't had problem putting in gear, but makes so much noise after warming that people actually ask me if the trans is broke! Tried all the oils including Amsoil which I have now. There has got to be a fix for this!!!

Dare I say could it be a compensator going bad? Never been one to fix what aint broke but it might be worth taking a look at. SE comps wernt stock equipment until 2010 I think.

As has been said, check your clutch adjustment (assuming it is not hydraulic)

I noticed the same this weekend... REALLY chunky shifting when it got very hot (600 miles at ~90-100 degrees ambient for most of them). Of course, they also had to tighten some transmission bolts to stop a leak and top off the fluid too. And at the 1K service they had to adjust the clutch..... guess I am gonna have clutch/tranny issues with this bike. oh well.
