Default Starter missing ring rear?

Couple of times now I have started my 08 street glide (8200mi.) and just heard a grind like the starter gear did not engage with the ring gear, but then after that it started fine every time, just wundering if this is normal? Also letting out on clutch slowly I can hear the plates clatter, and when pulling clutch in up to stop I can hear it clank I just had the clutch adjusted when we put the SE compensator in, does any one have any idy what could be causing these issues?
Thanks for yur time guy's...

very common problem...check out this thread...you have what is refered to as the cank bang grind problem. Frequently occurs on a subsequent start of the day when the bike is still warm from a previous start. The cause is the positioning of the crank at the top dead center position just before the power stroke during the last shut down. At this position, the starter has a very hard time turning over the engine and the starter teeth will miss causing the grind sound. Many replace the compensator to fix this, some replace the starter and or battery and others install compression release. some bump the motor past TDC position . Keep the below thread going with any repairs you encounter.

Reaper,

That sounds more of a starter clutch problem. That problem could also be weak battery.

My same starter issue was fixed by replacing the starter clutch, upgraded to the screamin eagle compensator, and replaced the inner primary bearing/race-- bearing was worn -- This solved my starter issue.
