Check out the specs on the 2012 Harleys. Their web site now brags about all the power accessories you can plug in ! The paragraph below is from the Ultra specs, and it shows a picture of the cigarette lighter plug. A similar spec on the Limited page shows the plug in the tour pak, stating it's backed up with a 15 amp fuse.

Harley-Davidson® touring means maximum comfort in all conditions and the capacity to add whatever enhances and personalizes your ride. The high output charging system provides an electrical capacity robust enough for your add-ons: heated vests, heated seats, heated handgrips, lights to showcase the engine, you name it. So if you're hell-bent on two-wheeling it, we make sure you've got the juice to do it your way.

I was using it with usb power head for my ipod. After a month quit working. Usb was fried. Cig lighter still works so I don't know what happened. Got acces. plug in tour pac for phone. Still, it makes me leary to use cig lighter for full time power? Man that usb head was fried.

I saw some pics recently from another post that explains part of the lighter socket problem - - the positive center of the socket (assuming it's wired correctly) has a really wide contact, and if your plug is mostly metal or has long side contacts it's possible to contact both + and - at the same time and short out the plug. I make sure the side contacts on my cell charger doesn't hit the center extension and it works just fine.

The Owner manual says not plug any accessory into the cigarette lighter. That said, there's a 12-volt accessory switch on the fairing and the connector is located under the seat.

My cig. fuse blew once this summer with a garmin gps. Dealer said that it's been more common. Lot of good explanations here. I would have cared more if my OL hadn't got me a zumo for Christmas.

My experience has been that if I plug it in, powered up it will blow a fuse. This happened a couple of times until I learned to leave it off when plugging it in.
