What was 1st year for a 6 speed trans on Road King?
I realize a 6 speed is a great feature, but the 5 speed would be OK on the interstate, wouldn't it?

I think it was the same year for all of the bikes that got the 6 speed 2007.

2007, and the 5 speed works just fine on the Interstate.

6-speed trans first came out in 2006 on Dyna models.
2007 for Touring bikes.
6th gear is like an "overdrive gear" would be on you car...reduces engine RPM at higher speeds
5th gear cruises just as well, just at a bit higher rev on the motor.

Interstate is the one place you might actually use 6th gear. My 5sp works fine up to about 120

6-speed is an 'ok' feature, not a great one. IMO. The frame change for the 2009's was a much better feature/improvement.
What others have said: 5-speed works just fine.

2007 they switched to TC 96 and 6 speeds and no more carbs. Use 6th all of the time It is total BS you can't use it below 70 as some say. I still have a bike with a 5 speed . can go any where I want with it. 6 speed is better.
