Progressive 440’s Compared to Harley’s OEM Air Shocks?
Being vertically challenged with a 29” inseam, I bought a set of 12” 440’s Heavy Duty Progressive shocks and they seemed to ride awfully rough (I was tipping 450 pounds then). Have since lost half of that weight and recently bought a ’11 RKC, which came with 13” eye to eye HD air shocks standard. Got a used set of 12” HD’s off a SG and still have a nice smooth ride and that extra inch I needed. Just took the 12” HD Progressives off and sent them back to have Progressive install the Regular springs (Cheap at $35). Tried them as a Heavy Duty and they darn near rattled my teeth out! What a harsh ride! Just wondering what I might expect in the way of ride characteristics and comfort when I get them back??

It dont take much to beat the stock SG shocks. Done the 440's HD. To stiff for my taste but still better than stock.
Sent them back to progressive for a spring change to standard. Got about 300 mile on the new springs, they ride a whole lot better. Started off with 1 round of pre load. Going to add another one as I did bottom the shocks one time on a dip over a culvert. My weight 235.

The turn around was quick, 8 days to Ca. and back. The bottom out was 1 up. Added that one more round today didn't hurt the smooth ride any but I did just touch the bottom again. Those short deep dips in the road are hard to see and hell on the suspension. Gona add another round b 4 next ride.
