Default I found the Ultra's Limit

Took the Ultra Limited on another road trip this week, and I finally found the bike's limit. Coming back down I-15 from Beaver, UT, I was riding into a 40+ mph wind ... and the bike would not pull more than 80mph in 6th gear going up an 8% grade.

Then again ... if you got to run at 80+mph into a 40mph wind up an 8% grade I'm not sure there's much that won't hit limit. ;-)

A quick shot from the road of the bike in the pine trees east of Boulder, UT, at about 9000 feet. I love taking this bike on trips!

Can't complain about that - a headwind like that is tough. Add an uphill grade and it did well.

Just recently bought a 2011 Ultra Limited, still waiting to take a "trip" on her though! Jacked my hand up, so will be about a month before I can ride again! No, I didn't hurt my hand on the bike....

6-speed bikes are way over-geared in top gear. It wouldn't have hurt it to change down to fifth and she would have been fine!

Exactly, 6th gear is like an overdrive, no power for climbing or accelerating.

An alternative approach is to slip in a 120R, which will probably cure the problem!

Nice looking Ultra! I agree with your second point though - 80mph/40mph wind/8% grade would stress just about any vehicle. I don't think that would drive me to significant performance upgrades since those conditions are probably more the exception than the rule...
