Default Tires for an 09 Ultra

My wife and I ride a fair amount. 13,000 miles on a late purchased 09 Ultra. I am looking for comments between the Dunlops and Avon touring tires.

I'm on my second set of stock D407/408's. The first set was okay; the front was replaced under warranty at 14,500 and I did the rear at the same time. I now have about 12,000 on this set I should get a lot more out of the front and probably have another 5k minimum on rear. They work well and I like the thin ww.

Dunlops American Elite are good tires, and can be purchased for under 300.00 for the pair

I rode Avon Venom X on my fatboy, before purchasing my current Ultra this year. Night and day - Venom's blew away the stock tires that came with the Ultra. I can feel the difference in the cold and absolutely on wet pavement. I don't know, however, how Venoms will hold up on the significantly heavier Ultra. I got about 18k front/14k rear mileage on my Fatboy Venoms.

I'm satisfied with the stock tires on my Ultra. I get about 17k front and rear. They seem to grip good enough for me. I haven't tried anything else.

Welcome to HDF, from the UK, home of both Dunlop and Avon tyres! Your bike will need Avon Cobras if you chose that brand. Having owned Harleys since the 70s I find I always go back to Avons and have Venoms on my old Glide. The give a smoother ride, better grip in all conditions and are a cut above the rest!

I JUST put a set of Metzler 880's on my 06 Ultra.....I will NEVER put another Dunlop on my bike.....and after a 1000 mile weekend....the handling and comfort of this tire made me feel as though I was riding a totally different bike.....even if I had to replace the rear tire every year....it would be money WELL spent!!

I'm running the American Elites on my 09. They handle real well and can be bought at a good price.

I run Dunlop E3s on my '08 Ultra. The tires I took off were the HD branded Dunlops and they caused it to wobble in turns. I thought there was something wrong with the bike, but it rides like a Cadillac now.
