if you can get a volt meter, check your battery voltage at rest (no key in ignition). theres a big difference in state of charge and cranking ability. 12.25 volts is a 40% charge, and 12.7 is an 80% charge. So what to do if you find the battery voltage low, clean your batt connections, pull your batter out and have it charged up (don't jump start it, that could damage your regulator ).

if it has enough battery to turn it over it has enough to start it so go back to basics .fuel? you said you could hear the pump ...does it pump fast at first then slow down as it builds pressure ? pull a plug wire stick a screwdriver or any conductor in the wire and hold it close but not touching the head ...did it spArk ? did you get zapped ? either would indicate enough spark ... you need answers to these before you can go further

itseemed to sound like always steady --but on the road I noticed while looking in the fill cap hole when I tuned on the key (gas tank was just filled) it looked and you could see the fuel swirling --maybe a line come off?

Unplug the quick disconnect fuel line and see if it's pressurized. If not, you may have a bad connection. Just unhooking it and plugging it back in may get you going...for a while.
