Default 10k service question

My local H-D dealer gave me a quote of $325 for the 10k service. A local indy said it would be $250, and another local shop who is a polaris, and star dealer quoted me $175. (and has a certified H-D mechanic on staff)

Labor rates are within $10 of one-another at each shop. Why the big difference in price? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
mikebaby

Labor is almost always the big variable. Perhaps you should ask the last 2 shops to show you that they're actually going to do a complete 10,000 just to be sure you have a level playng field.

$325 from the dealer beats any price around here. How can you be sure anyone does what the service manual calls for? Trust, I guess.

For the 10k I think i paid 4 something at my local dealer. I can do a lot of the stuff myself but I sleep better at night knowing they went over everything and the bike is safe. That to me is worth the cost. I am sure there are other shops that can do as good of a job with it but I prefer the Harley dealer. Just my 2 cents.

They don't go over everything! They are human. They are lazy. They don't care about your bike. Buy the manual and do it yourself and really achieve peace-of-mind.

PIECE OF MIND ...priceless! And buy $30 t-shirt while enjoying your free cup of coffee and folksy chit chat with the staff.
