New Exhaust: First Impressions

New Exhaust: First Impressions
With about 400 miles of riding with my new exhaust here are my first thoughts. I recently did the stage one mod with the following:
Vance & Hines dresser duals
Rinehart 4 inch slip ons
Ness Big Sucker air cleaner
HD Super Tuner
Here's why I did the stage one. I was hoping to cool this bad boy down and I also wanted to have a harley that sounds like a harley. I really wasn't too concerned about performance gains (HP and torque).
So the dealer did the install for me and they built me a map for the tuner (rather than doing a dyno). I personally love the sound of the new rineharts. Nice deep rumble at lower RPMs and sounds bada$$ when you get on the throttle. I can't feel any change in power or torque either for better or worse and that's fine by me. It definitely seems significantly cooler with the dresser duals than with the stock headpipes with cat.
Now for the most surprising thing (at least to me): Fuel mileage on three tanks has been much better than the stock setup. With the stock exhaust I invariably got 40 mpg, no matter how hard or easy I rode. On a trip with my saddlebags and tour pack loaded and my wife on the back I got 43.6 on one tank. 49.5 on the next and 39.5 on the last while riding HARD 75-80 mph with a bunch of passing thrown in. I'm so surprised, because i thought for sure my mileage would go down a few mpg after this mod.
So I like the sound. I like the coolness. I definitely like the fuel mileage so far. Is there a drawback? Only one so far, the wife says it's too loud for her now. We'll do some experimenting with different kinds of ear plugs and hopefully that will help her out. Thank God she's a trooper and isn't using the noise as an excuse not to ride with me.
Thanks for all the helpful people who posted you tube clips of their exhaust sounds etc. I'll be sure to let you know if I experience any problems with this setup, but at this point I'm one happy camper.
