You're taking all the fun out of it.

You can tap in the inner bearings with an old camshaft, or you can buy the tool that presses them in. It's done both ways, I'd recommend pressing them in, but lots of guys have just tapped them into place with no apparant problems.
I tapped mine in with the Beatty tool, as well as those for a friend. No problems, but I'm conscious of Torrington's admonition not to do it. I'd like to know more about the risks before doing it again with this tool. An ME friend and long-time tech says he can't see why it would be a problem given reasonable care--i.e., don't use a 4# maul without mercy.

I know we have sponsors who have DVDs for many such repair/maintenance procedures. Does anybody know how the quality/detail of the DVDs rate in comparison to these videos? I'm impressed by what I've seen here - really good stuff!!

Just search Bikers Choice on Youtube. This guy does the whole series from a Stage 1 all the way through the BigBore. Makes it look like a walk in the park.

When they get pressed in using a plate it squares the sides for smooth, even placement that also allows proper depth of bearing easily.

When they are tapped in, there is a chance that they may be driven into the bore unevenly or not square....possible damage to the bearing seat/race and/or bore.

I've pressed bearings in and tapped them in....just have to make sure they are square along the sides(clean too) when doing it.
(whatever tool you use...don't want to tap against the bearing *****/rollers either)
