Question Detachable backrest mount and saddlebag fitment

Just installed the detachable passenger backrest kit on my 02 FLHTC this weekend. I followed the directions and used the spacers between the bike and the plates they put in the kit which pushes the rear saddlebag mounts outward. Now I have to push the front of the saddlebag toward the bike lightly to get the front pin in.

Will this flex on the saddlebag causes any problems over time (cracks, etc.)?

Is it common to shim the front saddlebags mounts out with flat washers with this kit? I didn't see anything in the destructions that HD sends with this kit to do that and tried to re-read it but it's about as clear as mud.

Thanks
