Default Humidity and Paint Hazing

What's up with this hazy appearance on the bike that happens every summer. As soon as the humidity comes the painted saddle bags and side covers have a hazed look to them but the tank and fenders stay looking good. Why does it only happen to the painted fiberglass pieces??? The only way to get ride of it is to wax it. Come October when the air is drier the bike stays looking good all the time. Same thing with the windshields, they haze up with humidity also. The chrome gets little spots all over it and when you touch it, it will smear. Some of it wipes off with water but the stubborn spots need to be polished off. I spend hours trying to get it looking good but it all comes back by the following weekend if the humidity is high during the week. If the garage was tighter I'd run a dam humidifier, maybe that would help. Anyone else dealing with this annoying PITA.

The painted fiberglass is actually ABS plastic ( what year is your bike ? ), it is on mine anyway. Steel will sweat, but not ABS plastic , if anything your tank should be sweating. Where do you live ...the Amazon ? Maybe the paint is breaking down on the older fiberglass year bikes ! I've never noticed a haze unless I've had too much to drink.

Sounds like some kind of film on your bike. Possibly air pollution of some type, maybe humidity holds it?

I was thinking the same thing. If you have done any air cleaner mods, it may be a thin coat of oil from the blow-by hitting the bags while riding. The right side cover and right side bag on my bike always have a haze to them (until I wash it at least).

No the bags and side covers are Fiberglass it's a 96 and the paint is not breaking down. The paint is in mint factory condition. This haze will appear even if the bikes been parked in a hot humid garage for a week or two without being rode. It does not do it during the drier time of the year like in the Fall. It has something to do with Humidity and Heat. Chrome, windshield everthing gets messed up.

Does the same thing happen to your car? If so the answer is in the air. Even locked in a garage the air circulates.

2 cars and 2 motorcycles and just the motorcycles haze up. 1 Of the cars is hardly ever used so that one is good one for a comparrison. The other car is used daily.

I think it may be oxidation. My windshield and mirrors will haze lightly in a week in the garage uncovered, doesn't happen when covered....

Ride On........

Mine Hazes up covered or uncovered. Can't figure it out. I use to think in had something to do with the carnauba wax but now I use Mothers chrome polish on the chrome and it still spots up, it has polymers no wax. The big puzzle is why does the fiberglass bags and side cover haze and not the tank and fenders. They all get the same carnauba wax. I still think it has more to do with the humidity and heat because it will not do this if the humidity is low. Imagine spending hours polishing and it looks great. Park the bike and come back a week later and it's trashed like you never touched it, talk about a waste of time. I'm losing interest in cleaning it lately because it's a loosing battle.

With fiberglass bags it could be the Gelcoat oxidizing. Boaters refer to it as chalking. And there are products that can polish it out.
I never noticed it being related to humidity.
