88 to 95 Inch Big Bore....Anybody Done This????
#21
just did a 95" big bore, Andrews 26 cams, hydraulic tensioner upgrade... It's like a new bike! I'm quicker than my friends and the bike wants to jump when crack the throttle. I get it dyno tuned in two days and I'll be able to see the numbers. Go for it, you'll be happy if it turns out like mine.

totally agree "for you to say you wouldn't take your 07' 96'' engine out of state w/o a wrecker behind you is just the stupidest fu@kin thing I have heard all day YOU NEED A NEW MECHANIC!!!
For 1 you are comparing a bored out 88'' to a newer 96'' motor, differant animal. the 96'' motors have weak crank assembly's. 88'' is forged crank vs cast in the 96 so it gets crank end wobble, so when punched to 103 or 110 it gets worse.
I have both a nasty 95'' in my 01' WG, and a 96'' in my 07' SG, just some cam and light head work.
Both motors have thousands of trouble free miles. and the 07' 96'' is my burn out bike so it see's alot of abuse, I'm on my 2nd trans.

I trust my 95" anywhere. I guess I should be glad you don't work on my bike.
before going to a larger bore, go thru the threads and become familiar with all the compensator, bearings, crank, and other "found metal shavings, what do I do" threads which seem to be prominent on 96" and higher bore engines. Don't see too many folks with 88"'s having these problems. If I had an 88" bore right now, I would have no problem hoping on that bike and taking a week long road trip. I wouldn't take my 96" (10K miles 07 twin cam) bike out of state with out a complete tool kit, acccess to the internet, paid up road side assistance, and contacts in each city along the way.

You can't unless you have the paper work for the install or have heads off to measure the cylinder bore. There is no way of checking it by just looking at the bike.
