Default 2009 Electra Glide Standard (Flame Blue Pearl): Should I Buy It?

Here are the facts:

The bike was purchased new, at this dealership, 2 years ago (next month), with Cruise as the only option. A HD stereo system (amplifier and speakers) and LoJack were installed at the dealership ($2000 of add-ons, says the dealer). The owner literally rode the bike home, parked it in his garage, and never rode it again (the odometer reads 11 miles)! This week, the owner sold the bike back to the dealer.
  • Other than Cruise, stereo and LoJack, the bike is stock.
  • The bike is dusty and needs a good cleaning/polishing.
  • The seat covering seems to have come unglued from the baseplate (there's no longer a bucket in the bucket seat).
  • The listing price is $15,995, but the dealer will sell for $15,500.
A concern I have is that the bike has been sitting for 2 years with the original fluids in it. During that time it has never been started. Could the battery be near its end-of-life? Could the tires be dry-rotted or have developed flat spots? Could the gaskets or seals holding the liquids have dried out, creating a potential for future leaks?

What should I do? Are there other questions I should be asking?

It seems like a good deal, but I don't need to create headaches for myself down the road.

Thanks for your input.

...doubt the seals have dried out..and vehicles have sat for that amount of time while the owners are doing time..and they come out and ride them with no big deal...it's the price that bothers me...in a few weeks it will be 3 model years old...and I think a Standard new was about the same price...ya, I know it has a radio, but you could of done a different radio for a few hundred...and the Lojac is not a real big deal...I think that would be a good deal at maybe $14,000 to $14,500.....cause for maybe $1000.00 more than he wants you could be in a new Standard...if they still make Standards..(not sure)...

dam dealers suck!,, i think that price is to high to bad you couldn`t of bought it from the guy. if you do work out a price i would demand new tires a battey and 1000 mile service included in price and buy a ext warranty if you can.

Great color and decent bike but the price is too high. Offer $14,000 OTD and prepare to walk if the dealer gives you any BS.

2009 FLHT base price was $16995, and the flame blue paint was an additional $450 (if my memory is correct). Does it have ABS, or cruise, or security? If so those were additional costs (for 09 abs was around $795, security about $280, and cruise $240-ish). I have a 09 FLHT in denim black with ABS, cruise, and security which is why I remember. Anyways, was the dealer offering $15,500 for the bike out the door, or did they want tax, title, etc on top of that? If you could get the bike out the door for $15-15,500 I would think that'd be a good deal (plus maybe 1k service, fresh oil, and possible new tires if they are looking rough).

Dealer wants $15,500 plus tax, etc. The bike does have Cruise (original post editted), but no ABS or Security.

KBB shows a retail of $16,075 with no options. NADA shows a retail of $15,510 with no options.

I like your suggestion of $15,000 out-the-door, plus 1k service. I may add new battery and extended warranty to that list.

Thanks so much.

My bike is an 09 EGC that had about 8k miles on it when I got it in October '09. Had cruise, security system, tour pack rack. Paid 14,900 plus tax & title from dealer. It came with a two year warranty. Think the price is too high.

Well, guys, it's official. I am now the proud owner of a 2011 Street Glide (Vivid Black). We pick it up on Monday!

I rode the Electra Glide this afternoon. It didn't impress.

I'm very pleased with my new purchase.

Ray
