Thoughts on a good A/C

I thought the same way. When I ordered the PCV and Jackpots from Jaime, I got the SE air cleaner and ran it with different covers for about a year. Then I finally switched to Heavy Breather on my bike and really like it.

I went with the Velociraptor from Kuryakyn. http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/399...or-Air-Cleaner I have no problems with it and the bike runs just the same as my SE air cleaner kit I used to have on. It shows off much more of the engine too. I also got the covers for the breather bolts where they attach to the heads. They are a tapered, cone shape and look really good. http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/398...er-Bolt-Covers
The oddball cover behind the air cleaner in the pic does not come with it, Kuryakyn sells it separate as a cover for the throttle motor.

I drilled out the back of my airbox, my tuner sold his portable dyno station this last year after over 20 yrs of tuning all over the states and Sturgis many years, Rolling Thunder Dyno. I took his advice and cut out the backplate and got a K&N online for 50 bucks, he said that flows the same as the high end units and he even did it for customers to help out performance.

When I bought from Jaime at FM he said they have tested most of these AC's, and they all are about the same as far as the air that passes through them. He also said that some involve more maintenance than others. He recommended the SE AC with a K&N filter, which he sold me below list I believe. If FM has their own AC now then maybe that recommendation has changed.
Instructions tell you to remove part of the football to allow more air with the SE AC if I remember right. I hate that damn football though. I bought a simple round one from Harley that has a cutout so the side doesn't go all the way around the filter. It covers the top to keep water out in the rain, and the back for looks but the air filter gets unobstructed air.

Here is my experience with air cleaners.
I have the Arlen Ness BS. I got the one for my 2010 Ultra from FM. My 2002 RKC has an Arlenn Ness BS on it as well (I got that one from Eastern Performance). The 02 has had the ANBS on it since 2005 with no issues. Both have the stock HD football cover on them.
Both work great and were easy to install.
I'd buy the ANBS again without hesitation. It's relatively inexpensive and makes good HP.
Good luck.
