The crankshaft on Harley's are single throw (pin). It makes for an uneven firing order and gives a HOG their unique sound. Harley actually patented the unique sound and successfully sued Honda (think it was them) to make their V-Twin engines with offsets to sound different.

 

Wikipedia says it was a trademark and that they withdrew the suit.

 

Been riding for 42+ years, and didn't get my first bike with a windshield until '97. Since then its been Electra Glides ('97, '00, '03, and now an '06) Gotten very used to the nice wide seat (for my ever-widening 57 year old ***), the radio/CD/MP3, the hard luggage, etc.

My father told me a long time ago, when I was making fun of him and calling him a wuss for buying a car with automatic transmission and air conditioning: "The easiest thing in the world to get used to is luxury, and its also the hardest thing to give up". Truer words were neve spoken.
