I rode a twin cam Fatboy for 5 years before I upgraded to a Street Gide this year, so I feel qualified to speak on this subject. The reason I decided to glide was only because I knew that I would ride my scooter more often if I had some place to put my crap, IMO softails look terrible with bags, and I had a nice set of bags. The thing I still can't get over is how much better the bagger handles. Contrary to what you would think, my Street Glide out corners my softail hands down. I would've thought with the lowered suspension on the FLHX that I would be throwing sparks on every turn. My route to work has a few "30 mph" turns that I could push 50-55 mph on the Fatboy before the boards started to fold up on me. On the Street Glide I regulary take the same turns at 65 mph and have yet to touch the boards. As far as vibrations are concerned, I much prefer the low rpm vibe of the A motor to the high rpm vibe of the B. The rubber mounted engine feels like it's supposed to do that, but when the vibes came on with the Fatboy, it fealt like the motor was coming apart. My only regret with buying the bagger is that I didn't do it years ago, live and learn.

Correct me if i'm wrong ,but me thinks them counterbalancers rob HP and torque!
Oh yeah, spinning those two little counterbalance shafts robs as much torque as the extra 100+ pounds a bagger weighs.
I just said it above - the "baggers are faster" arguments were sure to pop up...

Having owned and logged many miles on each , the softail is a bike made to be seen on , and a touring is a bike made to ride , bottom line.

Guys,

I'm really sorry I started this. I wasn't out to offend anyone in the group. Honestly, I love the RoadKing - more towards the standard than the custom. I rented one because I wanted to try it out to see if was better than the 89 I had. Honestly, it wasn't what I remembered. Could have been the bike. Could have been me. Probably a bit of both.

There's boulevard bikes, and there's highway bikes. I have to ride at least 40 miles to find the nearest boulevard. Fairing, bags, and highway smooth is the only option for me. Thank goodness HD makes something for each of us.

Besides, I love hittin the start button and watching it shake while it waits for me to get on. Reminds me of last nigh . . . awe nevermind.
