Default 10 Deg Lower Oil Temps in a Minute.

Take the damn plastic housing off your Oil Cooler. Cleaning my bike this morning, I noticed that there isn't a lot of surface area exposed on the stock HD cooler on my 103. In 2 seconds I snapped off the plastic housing and exposed the whole cooler. Today, I was running an average of 10 degrees cooler than what I normally was. The housing was preventing the heat from dissipating. What the purpose of this plastic housing is, other than looks, is beyond me.
Now, with the whole cooler exposed, it works better.

I've never seen a cover on an oil cooler!! That's kinda odd.

its a a trim piece, my '11 has it. i remove it when doing a oil change since its a great spot for oil to get in all the crevices.

Maybe the purpose of the plastic housing was to protect the cooler itself
form road debris?

It's only covering the outside edges, the front is exposed, but it's keeping the heat in. After market oil coolers go in the same spot with no covering.
