Default Clutch cable route

Last week my clutch cable broke on my 98 FLHTUCI as I was pulling into my parking spot at work. Quick action with my feet made it possible to get into neutral and prevent an embarrassing situation. I was able to get my bike into and out of the shop the same day, I told them it was my only way home which was mostly true. When I went to pick it up they mentioned to me that the clutch cable was not routed through the fairing the way it should be. They put it back on the way they had found it. The guy that owened the bike before me had changed the handle bars to ones that allow for sitting back a little further and more comfortably. does anyone know if the clutch cable will still go through the fairing with the different handle bar? I don't feel that it is a significant issue but I may correct it the next time I have the front open.

The previous owner rerouted the original, rather than get a new longer cable. If it doesn't look bad, get caught on anything, or get pinched leave it.

The cable routing has no bearing on cable wear. Incorrect cable routing with a kink in the cable or laying on a header pipe will cause failure. As long as your cable is smooth and running without kinks to the transmission, is good to go. If you want it back in the fairing as original, then check into a longer cable so you can reroute it correctly.

Good luck!
