Replacing Factory Amplifier With J&M 500 Watt
I have the J&M 500 Watt amp coming in tomorrow, and wanted to know if anyone has installed this amp in place of the Boom Audio one under the tour pack. I am going to be installing the J&M inside the fairing, but wanted to know specifically how to bypass the rear amp and go direct to the rear speakers with existing wiring up in the Batwing area.
So basically where do I connect the rear speaker outputs from the amp, without running new Speaker wires direct to the speakers. And then more importantly, where do I get that output back at the rear speaker pods.
Hoping to hear from Jim on this. Are there specific wiring instructions for 500 watt amp on the CVOs?
Installed the 7.25 Rokkers tonight, waitin on Fedex tomorrow for the amp and I'm ready for the weekend!

I recall that you replaced the OEM HK head unit with an aftermarket head unit, so you'll have a disconnected "Ultra" connector (the 35 wire connector) that contains the rear speaker output wires. Those wires are identified in this thread:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...head-unit.html
Remove the four rear speaker wires from the connector and connect them to the rear speaker outputs of the amp.
At your OEM amp, there is a 23 wire connector where those four fairing wires enter the amp. Simply remove those four wires from the 23 wire connector and connect them to the appropriate speaker's + and - inputs.
Click on the "Instruction Sheets" tab in this link for information on how to remove wires from the 35 wire and 23 wire connectors:

Incidentally, it's a good idea to specify the year and model bike you have. I recall you have an older model CVO Ultra, and the audio/amp wiring on your model year is different from the newer models with respect to the rear speaker wiring.
Good luck with your project.
Carl
PS: If it hasn't been suggested/recommended to you previously, buy the HD Touring Model Service Manual and CVO Ultra supplement for your bike. The questions you posed are easily answered by looking at the wiring diagrams included in the SM's, as well as how to work with the various connectors you'll encounter.
