Totalled my bike possibly. Need advice.
The Memory Maker and my girlfriends bike Sassy were both involved in a wreck. Luckilly her Dyna has some minor damage like the tank, fender and the stop tab on her triple tree broke. As you can see from the pic we are both alive and kicking. I got mostly road rash and bruises and she got a broke hand, sprained knee and ankle. Not pretty but alive!
I was just wondering for those who have been involved in claims with Progressive how well they treated you and if you had any advice for when the adjuster comes. I had $6000 in accessory insurance and wondered also how well the paid you if they do total it. Do they pay NADA tradein, retail, or something else? How did you prove the value of the accessories?
There is a lot of minor damage to my bike. Several body panels, front wheel, crash bar, left floorboards, rineharts, grips, mirrors, handlebars and a few other items. The bike went airborn they say about 6 feet after hitting a curb and it jumped across a ditch and landed straight up on the suspension with the crashbar holding it up against the bank. I am pretty sure it had to over compress the suspension and possibly bend the frame. It being a 2004 bike I would just assume they total it if they can.

I have progressive, my sg tipped over >$2k no issues when the adjuster came, it went very well (imho), have a friend totaled his fat boy, they (progressive) had something they use in regards to the last service, but not really sure how they came up with $12k for a 6 yr old bike with 80k miles but they did, good luck

Glad your both gonna pull through.
My best advice is going to be the absolute opposite of what you are going to what to do, but here it is....DO NOT be in a rush to settle with your insurance. They will probably do an estimate and offer you a check the same day. Make sure your getting a fair price for your bike and taking advantage of any extra coverage you may have. Its their goal to settle quickly and for the lowest amount possible. That is how they are trained. If anyone tells you different, they work for an insurance company! You have homework to do, start researching now what it will cost to replace your bike and use reasonable references and that will make it tough for them to argue with you. Don't forget to check you own coverages. do you have med-pay on your insurance? Don't forget about any other insurance you may have like Aflac or American Fidelity.
Last of all, don't feel bad about making a claim, its WHY you pay for insurance. They sure don't have any issues taking your premium payments!

I have American Family Insurance. I totalled my Victory before I bought my HD and like you, we were just banged up and happy to be alive. They pay NADA and took very good care of me after the accident. The way I saw it was I got considerably more than I would have had I tried to sell it. I had a check in 4 days and was happy with the outcome, all things considered anyway.

My wife's Streetbob was totaled last summer. Progressive was very fast and no issues or aurguments. They paid book value of the bike. I had $2,000.00 in accessory insurance and had to provide a list of the items and the cost. I also had to pay the towing fees and submit for re-imbursement; no hassles there. They also paid my son's hospital bills without a hassle. I would give them a 5 out of 5 rating for the way they handled it.

...if they total it, the payout should be based on a few factors. One, the starting point should be based on NADA High-Retail, not trade in, then they factor in anything that affects value such as high/low mileage, prior damage, and market conditions. If you have the accessory coverage, most likely they will be looking for receipts, if you don't have them you may have to work with the adjuster to show what they cost. You can provide print outs from catalogs etc. More info equals more payout in that case. Good luck man

don't forget the cost of the helmets and gear too. (don't know if that falls under the 'accessories' coverage or not)
i had 2 claims in 10 years with progressive. both of them were comprehensive, not collision, but i was treated more than fairly on both of them. even though i did the labor myself, they paid me for my time and no, that isn't insurance fraud, you are entitled for the labor costs as well as the parts cost. they don't care who does it. my insurance guy knew i was gonna do it myself.
glad you guys made it out okay. is there a story how you both ended up in a wreck? not trying to be macabre, but it could be a good learning point for others too.
